District Spotlight: Caja Johnson, Marblehead's METCO Director

Caja Johnson serves as the K–12 METCO Program Director for Marblehead Public Schools, where she is dedicated to supporting students, partnering with families, and advancing equity in education. A passionate advocate for educational opportunity and racial justice, Caja brings a background in psychology, special education, community engagement, and social justice work to her role. 

She previously served on the Executive Board of the METCO Directors Association and is the founder of the Massachusetts chapter of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE), the nation’s leading organization dedicated to advancing educational excellence and opportunity for Black students and educators.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Caja enjoys coaching youth basketball, serving on community boards, and empowering the next generation of leaders. Her work reflects a deep commitment to strengthening communities and creating pathways for student success.

We are incredibly proud of Caja’s leadership in founding the Massachusetts chapter of NABSE and her continued commitment to educational equity. Through her advocacy, service, and dedication to students and families, she embodies the very values that METCO stands for—opportunity, leadership, community, and the belief that every student deserves the chance to thrive. Her impact continues to inspire educators, students, and communities across the Commonwealth.
