The Board of Directors and the Search Committee are open to a variety of professional
backgrounds in candidates and expect that the next Chief Executive Officer will bring many of
the following skills, experiences, and personal attributes:

  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably an advanced degree or equivalent experience, with at

        least 10 to 15 years of senior management experience.

  • Be thoroughly committed to METCO's mission, and quickly become recognized as the

        public face and leader of METCO, both internally and externally.

  • Have deep knowledge of non-profit operations, strategic planning, business planning,

        fundraising, cultural competence, government relations.

  • The ability to work with parents/guardians, grasp of Massachusetts K-12 education
  • system, data-driven program evaluation, and an understanding of METCO core


  • Have demonstrated leadership, coaching, and relationship management skills, and

        display the multicultural dexterity to work effectively with a profoundly diverse population

        of staff, students, and community entities.

  • Be a resourceful bridge builder, who continues to enhance the community-

        connectedness of the organization.

  • Effectively lead a similarly scaled an outcomes-based organization, demonstrated by

        having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the

        next stage of transformative growth.

  • A proven track record of cultivating, stewarding and securing six and seven-figure gifts,

        and an understanding of public funding.

  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and

        develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a


  • Past success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to cultivate and deepen

        relationships with Board members.

  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience, with the ability to engage

        a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate

        communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

  • Technologically savvy.
  • Exhibit an entrepreneurial-approach, passion, idealism, advocacy, integrity, positive

        attitude, mission-driven, sense of humor, and self-directed.

  • The ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
